MEET OUR SCIENCE LIAISON IN THE SOUTHERN OCEAN – EVA HIDALGO

Eva HidalgoEva Hidalgo, Bosun’s Mate on the Sea Shepherd’s Steve Irwin, has dedicated her life to the conservation of whales and their environment. For this season’s  campaign in the Southern Ocean, Operation Relentless, not only is the Sea Shepherd fleet trying to thwart Japanese whalers, but they’re collecting invaluable data from an environment that is not easy to work in or even access.
Roger Payne and  Iain Kerr are working with Eva and the Sea Shepherd crew to obtain data from the Antarctic waters that we can use in our whale and pollution studies. Thanks to Skype, Eva is able to communicate with Ocean Alliance about what they are finding and how they can best use their time there as they track the Japanese whalers.
In Eva’s own words, here is what the partnership means to her.
