The annual Goed Geld Gala of the Dutch Postcode Lottery was held this year in the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam. Drs. Geert Vons, General Director of Sea Shepherd Netherlands and Captain Alex Cornelissen, Sea Shepherd Global Executive Officer, both attended the Gala. Michiel Verboven, Managing Director of the National Postcode Lottery, presented them both with a check for 900,000 Euros.

This year marks the seventh year in which Sea Shepherd has been awarded support from the National Postcode Lottery. To date, we have received 6.3 million Euros, funds that greatly benefit Sea Shepherd’s global campaigns.

302 million Euros for charity thanks to the Postcode Lottery

The gala was an exciting and important night for 101 charities, as The Postcode Lottery announced that they will donate a record amount of 302 million Euros this year. The highlight of the gala every year is the announcement of the Dream Project winner. The Dream Project supports new, brave and innovating projects out of the normal financial reach of the charities. This year’s winners are Peace Parks and World Wildlife Fund, which received 14.4 million Euros for their project to save the African Rhino from extinction. South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Prime Minister Rutte of the Netherlands presented the winners with the Dream Project check.

The 2.5 million participants who play the lotto make it possible

The 2.5 million participants who play the Dutch Postcode Lottery make the charitable donation of millions by the lottery possible. Half the cost of every ticket sold is donated. Thanks to the lottery’s growing profits, almost 12 million Euros more can be donated to the charities this year.
